The RAM in the newer OnePlus 8T and 9R models has been upgraded

The OnePlus 8T was released in the second half of2020, and it did not come with a Pro variant this time.Later, in early2021, it was slightly upgraded and released alongside the OnePlus 9 series as the OnePlus 9R.According to XDA-Developers, both phones come with LPDDR4X memory modules, but it appears that OnePlus has decided to silently upgrade them.

Instead of LPDDR4X RAM, the OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 9R have LPDDR5 RAM.

In real-world applications, the difference between these two RAM modules is barely distinguishable.OnePlus, on the other hand, has quietly decided to replace the memory in newer units with a slightly faster one.

The OnePlus 8T comes with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, which is still listed as LPDDR4X on the official spec sheet. The type of RAM in the OnePlus 9R is not specified on the spec sheet page, but independent testing has confirmed that it is also LPDDR4X.

When using a tool on their OnePlus 8T or 9R that was incompatible with this RAM type, some buyers discovered their units had the faster LPDDR5 RAM type.

Phones that appeared to be identical came with better or worse internal hardware, which was different in some units than in others. The Galaxy S8’s varying types internal storage case from2017, for example, where some units were shipped with UFS 2.0 and others with UFS2.1, is one such example.

However, in everyday use, the difference in RAM type between the OnePlus 8T and the 9R is markedly different.
