Xiaomi may be working on the Mi Band’s most significant design update to date. The electronics manufacturer recently launched the Mi Band 6 in its domestic market and has yet to introduce it in India, but we are hearing that it is already working on multiple bands. While we can expect a direct successor to the Mi Band 6, a new leak suggests that the company is also working on a band with a 360-degree wraparound display, which could be titled the Mi Band X.
Weibo, a Chinese social media platform, provided the information.According to a new post, Xiaomi is developing a Mi Band with a flexible display that wraps around the entire circumference of the device. This means you might not need a strap to keep the band on your wrist. The source backs up the leak with a photo from what appears to be a Xiaomi event.
The leaked image’s slide is titled “the king of internal scrolls – the Mi Band X.”It also mentions a “magnetic bracelet buckle” that is “extremely thin and light.”Aside from that, no information about the upcoming smart band is available.Xiaomi has not stated when or if this band will be released. It will also be interesting to see in which markets the band will be revealed.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of such a design on a smart band.Huami, Xiaomi’s manufacturing partner, introduced something similar in 2020.The company’s Amazfit X also had a curved AMOLED display and could be worn on the wrists of customers. Then there was the Nubia Alpha, which featured a wrap-around cuff display.
However, both of these devices only gave us a glimpse at what smart band designs could look like in the future.
They targeted a specific consumer group and received mixed results.Given Xiaomi’s reach and popularity among the general public, the Mi Band X is expected to be positioned in a more accessible category.
To recall, the Mi Band was a very popular product that sold over 1 million units in less than a month after it was released.
